Pelican Elite 50 Quart Review Summary

Pelican Elite 50 quart is one of the best coolers in the market. It is one of the best coolers when it comes to insulation. It has an easy to operate lid latch and a lifetime warranty.

Aside from that, you’re getting extra features such as cupholders, bottle openers and lid rulers for measuring fish. It is certified bear proof and will surely last you a lifetime.

Pros
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Stainless steel lock hole doubles as a bottle opener
  • Has 4 cup holders
  • Insane insulation properties could last up to 10 days under normal use
  • Easy to use latch
Cons
  • Not 100% leak proof
  • 10 lbs. heavier than YETI

Design

The Pelican Elite comes in 8 unique color variants. It holds an accurate volume of 50 quarts, unlike its competitor YETI Tundra which holds a lesser volume than its model name.

It is noticeably bulkier and heavier than most coolers but does not disappoint when it comes to performance.

Just the lid alone comes with 4 cup holders and 2 rulers that show inches and centimeters separately.

It has a stainless steel lock hole in the middle of the opening that doubles as a bottle opener.

Like most coolers, it comes with tie-downs so you can easily secure it in the boat or at the back of your truck using a rope.

Its integrated plastic handles make it more stable for 2-person carry, however, it takes up more space than the rope handles of YETI.

Where I think the pelican cooler pulled ahead is the easy-to-use button lid latch. Unlike YETI’s T-rex latches, this button type latch can be operated with one hand. Pretty convenient especially when you’re holding something in your other hand.

Pelican Elite Performance

Insulation

When it comes to insulation, We consider the Pelican Elite to be at the top of the list. In a test done by Coolers on Sale, they revealed that even on the 10th day, the Pelican Elite 50 quarts still held ice. It is at par or even better than the Engel Cooler.

Durability

Pelican has been building tough casings since the 70s. And the Pelican cooler is no different. Its rotomolded body is virtually unbreakable. In fact, they back it up with a lifetime guarantee. Definitely better than all warranties in the rotomolded cooler market.

Like most coolers, it is certified bear-proof, meaning, even grizzly bears won’t be able to access the insides of the cooler.

Functionality

The Pelican Elite 50 quart features 4 cup holders and 2 rulers showing inches and cm on its lid which could be used for measuring catch when fishing. Plus, it has a built-in bottle opener that doubles as a lock hole.

It has a large drain hole that efficiently drains the water fast and a plastic attachment for a green hose. This is especially useful when you want to drain the water at a drain without having to move the cooler.

Price

When it comes to price, the Pelican Elite 50 quarts sit around $300, making it one of the high-end options. But with that comes tons of features you can’t find with the YETI Tundra.

Our Verdict

Pelican Elite 50 quarts is definitely one of the top players in the cooler industry. It has lots of features with amazing performance that will surely not disappoint you.
